An exceptional 2011 season ended at the Montmelo circuit near Barcelona. Some categories produced incredibly tight, nail-biting battles between drivers, while others saw total domination by a single, outstanding champion. Despite high quality throughout the Formula Renault 3.5 field the Carlin Motorsport drivers, Robert Wickens and Jean-Eric Vergne, fought a no-holds-barred duel at the top of the pack throughout the season. In Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, Carlos Sainz Jr was the pre-season favourite, but the title eventually went to Robin Frijns in an action-packed championship. There was less suspense in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy, however, as Swiss driver Stefano Comini dominated the season from start to finish. The debut season of the Clio Eurocup was a successful one with eight spectacular races, battles throughout the field and an outstanding champion in Nicolas Milan.
